Technology and the environment
A further advantage of powder paints
compared to liquid ones is the possibility
to recycle them thus greatly reducing
waste material: the self-cleaning painting
cabins allow to recover the powder
deposited on the floor of the cabin,
recycling it for further treatments. The
total percentage of wasted powders is
considerably lower than the waste
generated by liquid paints.

OVEN
STANDARD DOUBLE PAINT
The
double painting
process is necessary
for those applications in
aggressive
outdoor environments
, such as highly
polluted towns, waterfronts, very sunny
places or areas which are generally
exposed to harsh weather conditions.
This actually means 90% of outdoor
applications.
The very different weather conditions
and geographical characteristics are
important aspects when it comes to the
development and engineering of outdoor
luminaires that must guarantee superior
performances and durability over time.
What are the best possible solutions to
face up to areas affected by pollution,
severe temperature range and rigorous
climate?
First of all, the choice of raw materials:
copper-free aluminium (0,9%÷0.05%),
silicone gaskets, A4 stainless steel
screws; secondly an
extra resistant
double painting process
carried out in
three steps:
1. Chemical pre-paint surface treatments:
11 different pre-painting surface
treatments, including Henkel’s
Bonderite®
NT-1
aluminium process specifically
studied for steel, zinc and aluminium
surfaces, consisting in the application
of a coat of ceramic nanoparticles on the
aluminium component in order to create a
cohesive, inorganic, high density coating.
Bonderite
®
NT-1 ensures maximum
protection against corrosion.
2. Epoxy powder primer:
in combination with Bonderite, it ensures
optimum bonding of the paint.
It has extraordinary gripping characteristic
with polyester powder paint and a superior
mechanical resistance and corrosion proof.
3. Polyester powder colour coating:
the perfect grip of polyester powders
to the epoxy primer creates a compact
layer with a thickness of up to 120 μm,
ensuring high resistance against UV-rays
and harsh weather conditions.
These treatments result in a
double extra
resistant surface paint
guaranteed by the
saline mist test with an exposure of over
1500 hours.
The
double painting
is a standard process
in Simes and it is now offered
without
extra charge
throughout the whole product
range.
